From the human populations that occupy our cities, to the microbial populations that occupy our skin, we are one ecosystem. When it comes to skin health, the very thing that is contributing to airborne pollution is also responsible for damaging our skin health.

Today, many of us are using over 20 products on our skin daily. This approach to consumption is doing two things; destroying our skin barrier and sending over 95 billion units of packaging to landfill each year. Plastic waste is a significant contributor to air pollution, an external stressor that further destroys our skin barrier.

The skin barrier is the outermost protective layer of the skin; the front line of your skin, responsible for defending against pollution, UV light and infection, and locking in hydration. Made from a blend of lipids and fats, including ceramides, the skin barrier is also home to an ecosystem of microorganisms that help to keep skin balanced and healthy. It is estimated that 26% of our microbiome lives in our gut, while 21% lives on our skin.

An impaired skin barrier has been identified as the number one cause of skin issues by dermatologists, including premature aging, breakouts, hyperpigmentation, sensitivity and dryness. Most conditions are addressed at symptom level, using a multitude of individual products.

The patented technology in BARRIER CULTURE CLEANSER is clinically proven to reduce particulate matter (pollution) induced skin barrier damage by 45% in three days (ex vivo) and improve skin moisturisation by visibly reducing skin dryness and decreasing TEWL (trans-epidermal water loss) by 6.5% in 42 days (in vivo).

After six weeks of using BARRIER CULTURE CLEANSER and MOISTURIZER exclusively:

82% of testers said their skin texture and tone was improved*. 82% of testers reported improved skin hydration*. 70% of testers said their skin was less reactive and sensitive*.

*45 male and female testers aged between 21-56 years old, tested BARRIER CULTURE CLEANSER and BARRIER CULTURE MOISTURIZER exclusively for six weeks.

No, the probiotic technology we use in this formula is room temperature and shelf stable. It has undergone a processed technique which stabilizes the microbe without splitting it’s cell wall, so most importantly, your skin recognizes it as “live” bacteria.

Yes, it’s safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Absolutely, we believe the best approach comes from addressing a concern internally and externally which is why we create topical and ingestible supplements. SKIN FILTER and SKIN HYDRATOR are great pairings for these formulas.

Yes, it works really well with THE PILL – the formulas are designed to be used together. We’d recommend using THE PILL after cleansing and before your BARRIER CULTURE MOISTURIZER either AM or PM, depending on your routine.

Dermatologists and skin specialists agree that nearly all issues they see are linked to an impaired skin barrier, including breakouts and blemishes. Supporting the health of your skin through repairing your skin barrier function will reduce the symptoms of an impaired skin barrier - i.e. breakouts, dryness, redness and sensitivity. In fact, in our consumer trial over six weeks 58% of people reported a reduction in breakouts.

It really depends on your skin – everyone is different. Some people see results start to appear within a week and others longer. It’s worth remembering that it takes around 40-50 days for a full skin cell turnover cycle, so you really shouldn’t judge before then. On average we’d recommend testing for six weeks before assessing results.
